Macular Traction treatment in Bonita Springs FL

Macular Traction

Macular traction happens if your vitreous gel does not completely separate from your retina.

Cause

Macular traction is caused when the gel like substance in the eye (vitreous) begins to shrink as it does due to the normal aging process, but in this case it does not fully separate from the retina, causing traction. It may also be caused by other systemic disease processes.

Symptoms

You may experience central blurred vision or distortion with Macular Traction.

Diagnosis

A full comprehensive eye exam is required to detect Macular Traction, along with a complete medical history special pictures will be obtained. This photography is known as a fluorescein angiogram and a 3D optical coherence tomography scan.

Treatment

If you experience an increase in symptoms surgical intervention may be necessary.

Prevention

Regular eye examinations can detect Macular Traction early.
